Drugs and mental health

We've been hearing more and more in Melbourne recently about the impact of drug-taking on mental health. As the mental health organisation SANE Australia points out, 50 per cent of people with mental health conditions also have a drug or alcohol problem, and it can be hard to tell which came first, the drugs or the mental illness.

Too often, unfortunately, people fail to make the connection between their misuse of alcohol and drugs and their mental state, let alone step off the potentially catastrophic pathway to serious, potentially fatal disorders. The situation isn't helped by the fact that the Internet is full of misinformation.

Liverpool University psychologist Dr Suzi Gage, who researches associations between drug use and mental health succeeds in busting many of the myths with her Say Why to Drugs podcasts. 

Alas, the Acast platform which hosts the podcast preceded the first of the series with a commercial for [SIGH] Dan Murphy's, but that doesn't detract from the content.
