Anxiety is a natural and normal reaction everyone experiences from time to time. People feel anxiety in situations that they think are threatening or dangerous in some way. When a person is anxious, their thoughts are focused on what could go wrong, and it can become very difficult to concentrate on other things.

Learning that having an anxiety disorder is not a life sentence is the first step towards a solution. With the right support, you can learn to manage your anxiety and stop it from taking over your life. Anxiety becomes a problem when it stops people from living their lives the way they want to.

Who should join this group?

Anyone who feels that anxiety affects their thoughts, feelings, and their behaviour or actions.

What will I learn in this group?

You will learn what anxiety is, and how to identify triggers and unhelpful behaviours. You will learn how to better manage unhelpful thinking and physical reactions that are anxiety based, through strategies and practical exercises. A key learning objective will be the benefits of mindfulness and self-compassion.

About the presenter, Dr Anna Mooney

Dr Anna Mooney is a registered psychologist with a Masters in Clinical Psychology, and is highly experienced in group work. Her ambition in life is to help improve the human condition, while specialising and enjoying helping people to elevate and thrive by introducing and teaching a better way. Dr Mooney will help you understand that inner peace and contentment is closer than you think and that you can find it together.

About the course

Are these courses live?

Yes, all courses are live so feel free to take notes so you get the most out of the course content. We also make time for Q&A at the end of each session so if you have any questions about the course content you can ask the Psychologist directly.

How many students are there in the online course?

Normally there are between 5-15 students in the course Zoom session. You will be able to see the presenter and the other participants in the group. You will also be able to ask Q&A questions either during the group or at the end of the group. 

If I miss one of the course dates can I watch the recording?

Our Psychology courses are all live events and are not recorded so we are unable to provide a digital copy. We can provide the course notes or a one-on-one counselling session with the Psychologist that presents your course so you can discuss the course content in further detail. Please call our Client  Services Team on (03) 9629 1001 or use our live Chat on the website to book a session.

Are there any other course times available?

All our current courses can be viewed at - https://www.psychologymelbourne.com.au/psychology-short-courses. If you would like to book into one of our courses at a later date, please contact us and we can subscribe you to our monthly newsletter so you can access our upcoming courses as soon as they are launched.

Will I need to do any reading before the course?

You aren’t required to complete any prior reading or learning as our courses are designed to teach you about the topic in detail.

Will other students see me in the course?

The Zoom session is presented to the group and you will be able to see the other students. If you don’t wish to be visible, you can easily turn off your video camera.

Can I have a private consultation with the course teacher?

We can provide one-on-one counselling sessions with the Psychologist that presents your course so you can discuss the course content in further detail. Please call our Customer Service Team on (03) 9629 1001 to book an online session or in our clinic.

Online course access

What program do you use for your online courses?

Our online courses are hosted on Zoom https://zoom.us which is free to use and allows you to see and hear the Psychologist presenting the course. It also has audio and video functionality built-in so you can easily talk to the Psychologist plus a chat window to type any questions you have about the course content.

What do I need for the course?

You will need a computer, laptop or mobile phone with speakers or headphones and internet access. The bandwidth used by Zoom will be optimised to your network speed and will automatically adjust the quality for 3G, WiFi and wired environments. If you have a microphone and/or webcam you will to be able to participate using audio and/or video if you like. If you like to take notes, have a pad and pen handy or you can type points during the presentation.

How do I access the session via Zoom?

We will email you a link and password to access the scheduled Zoom session on the day of the course. You can use the link within the email or visit https://zoom.us/join and add the Meeting ID to access the course.

Can I view the Zoom session using my mobile device?

Yes you can use mobile devices like phones and tablets and the full Zoom specifications can be viewed here - https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362023-System-requirements-for-Windows-macOS-and-Linux. Prior to your course you can download the Zoom mobile app here - https://zoom.us/download.

When will I receive my link for the session?

We will email you a link and password to access the scheduled Zoom session on the day of the course.

What happens when I click the URL link?

When you click on your course link, the Zoom desktop or mobile app will download automatically to your device if you don’t already have the program installed, and you just follow the prompts to join the course. If preferred, you can install Zoom prior to the course start from here - https://zoom.us/download.

What if I do not receive the Zoom link?

We recommend that you check your emails for the Zoom course link before 5pm on the day of your course (and don’t forget to check your junk mail if you can’t locate it). If you do not have it, please call our Client Services Team on (03) 9629 1001 to resend it to you so you don’t miss your first session.



Course bookings

How do I book a course?

Online - You can easily book the course online by going to our courses page, selecting the course you are interested in and completing the ‘Book Now’ form. This will allow you to pay by VISA or MasterCard and once processed you will receive a confirmation email to confirm your booking. Please ensure you enter your email address carefully to ensure you receive your Zoom link.

By Phone - Simply call our Client Services Team on (03) 9629 1001 or use our live Chat on the website and  we can take your booking and payment over the phone by VISA or MasterCard. 

Can I book a course as a gift or for a friend?

Yes you certainly can! We have Course Gift Certificates available to purchase so you can gift someone special and they can choose any of our courses to enroll in. Alternatively, you can book any of our online courses and include your friend's Email, First Name, Last Name and Phone Number but pay for it yourself and we will send them the confirmation email directly to access the course content. If you would like any assistance, please contact our Client Service Team on (03) 9629 1001 or use our live Chat on the website.

What credit cards do you accept?

We accept payments by VISA or MasterCard online or by phone on (03) 9629 1001, prior to the course commencement. A part-payment system is available for those in need.

Can I pay with AfterPay?

Yes you certainly can! Afterpay allows you to split your purchases into four interest-free instalments, so you'll pay your first instalment at the time of purchase, and the remainder every fortnight. You can find your payment schedule in the Afterpay app and they will send you regular payment reminders. For more information about Afterpay, visit https://www.afterpay.com.

Can I pay by EFT?

Unfortunately we do not provide an EFT option but we accept payments by VISA or MasterCard online or by phone on (03) 9629 1001, prior to the course commencement.

Do you offer concession prices for courses?

We reserve a limited number of places for those people with a Health Care Card. Call our Client Services Team on (03) 9629 1001 or use our live Chat on the website to discuss this in more detail.

How do I organise a group booking?

If you require a Psychology course for your group or workplace we can facilitate a Psychologist to provide online, face-to-face or fully customised course content. Our EAP Team also provides wellbeing workshops and EAP packages to improve productivity, capability and well-being in the workplace. Course rebates

Do I need a GP referral to do a course?

Our courses are open to all clients so you don’t require a GP referral to enroll. Currently Medicare rebates only apply to face-to-face attendances which we are not offering. 

Can I get a rebate from Private Health Insurance?

Our Psychologists are registered as providers with Private Health Funds. Some funds will allow rebates for psychological services, however it is advisable to check with your specific fund to see if your 'extras cover' includes this and the amount of repayment. If you are eligible, you can choose to use your Private Health Insurance to pay for courses and we will send you a receipt for you to claim your rebate online.



Course cancellations

If I can’t make it to my course is there a refund?

We do not provide refunds on courses once they have been purchased but will be able to assist you in changing the name and email address on the enrolment if you have someone else that would like to take your place. Please call our Customer Service Team on (03) 9629 1001 or use our live Chat on the website to make any adjustments to your enrolment.

What if the course gets cancelled?

If for any reason the course is cancelled, you will be offered a refund in full, or you can book into the next available course. Alternatively we can schedule a one-on-one session either online or in our clinic with the Psychologist that was presenting the course.
