Self-help books or online programs can be great tools for people wanting to change behaviour but it's hard to know which books or sites to choose. Worse, according to Dr John Grohol, research indicates that participants tend not to "stick to the program". In the real world they generally fail to make the impact their authors expect. Attending our classes produces better results, because they are based on sound research, are delivered by qualified psychologists, and can address your personal issues. Our classes work together with your counselling sessions to aid your progress. They are designed to improve your understanding of how your mind works and to find alternative ways to manage emotions and adopt new behaviours. You could think of our classes as being like Pilates classes for mental fitness, where you will learn and practise new skills and exercises. They are structured classroom-style sessions that run for 1 to 1.5 hours with 6 - 10 people. Subjects range from Managing Stress, Managing Negative Thoughts and the Better Sleep program to Relationship Skills for people to learn to communicate and relate better with each other. All our classes are developed from the recognised evidence-based research of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy. Medicare rebates are also available for our classes. Anyone can book in. You don’t have to be a client at the centre. Light refreshments are available on arrival. See our Latest Classes for what's on this month. |
